Ken Cush & Associates have commenced proceedings on behalf of ACT resident Paul Morro seeking damages pursuant to s18(7) of the Human Rights Act 2004.
The claim arises from his arrest and deprivation of liberty for 73 days between 30 December 2006 and 12 March 2007.
Statement to Media
I have instructed my solicitors to file proceedings in the ACT Supreme Court against the Australian Capital Territory for compensation and damages as a result of me being wrongfully arrested and imprisoned in Goulburn gaol for 73 days.
I wish to say, I cannot understand how the ACT Government bureaucracy can override the Chief Magistrate of Canberra and within 11 days put me in gaol.
I want the matter to be dealt with as quickly as possible as I feel depressed with this hanging over my head. My father died in a hit and run accident in Sydney before he received any compensation so I would like the matter to be dealt with without delay.
Whilst in gaol I kept a diary of my horrific experience.
This should not happen anywhere in Australia especially in the ACT where the Stanhope Government has made so much of Human Rights, yet in my case, my rights were flushed down the toilet.
As you would appreciate until the matter is finalised I cannot say anymore further.
